Home >> About us >> History

FUDEM is a Private Nonprofit Organization funded in 1989 by a group of businesswomen who have a great sense of social responsibility and altruistic spirit. Committed with the future of our country, this group of women decided to create an organization aiming to contribute with the integral growth of women.

After three years of activities, and based on the experiences shared, these women realize that one of the greatest needs for women in our country, and in the whole world, that limits women’s development is health needs, for them and their families, specially visual health.

It is then that, starting in 1992, FUDEM focuses its services to the attention of visual health, aiming to fight blindness in El Salvador, attending, specially, to those who live in conditions of extreme poverty.

FUDEM is a private nonprofit foundation that provides holistic services in Visual Health, in a way that is accessible to al Salvadorans, especially for those who are economically vulnerable.

Our patients find professional and quality attention to solve their visual needs in our four Visual Health Centers that are located in Colonia Flor Blanca, Soyapango, San Miguel and Santa Ana.

FUDEM also has Mobil Units that go to neighborhoods, communities and settlements of difficult access that don’t have access to ophthalmological services.
Twenty years of history is nothing but the sum of the efforts and the work carried out by a team of committed people who devote themselves on a daily basis to improve the quality of life of thousands and thus, see the realization of the dreams of a whole country, providing them with the opportunity to see a different world.
